Castletown Replacement Fire Station
Client: Isle of Man Government, Department of Home Affairs
Status: Completed 2017
Contract Value: c. £1.1m
This project, to replace an existing Fire Station, firstly required a feasibility study to locate and select a suitable site, which was found in a business park (former industrial estate) close to the Isle of Man’s Ronaldsway Airport and between the two main centres of population the facility now serves. Although originally conceived as a fire station with training facilities for the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service, the brief was extended to also provide stationing and facilities for the Isle of Man Ambulance and Paramedic Service, into a combined facility.
The building is composed of two parts, a single storey appliance bay and a two storey accommodation block which are expressed in the form and external materials.
