Contemporary House, Shilley Ailin
Status: Planning Consent
The brief for this project was to replace an existing detached house in the countryside with a considerably larger house of modern, innovative design as permitted in exception by local planning legislation which requires that such a proposal have less visual impact than the building it replaces which is a dormer bungalow.
The solution was to move the building away from the main road to provide space for additional planting and screening and to provide two storeys of accommodation under a flat roof with bio-diverse covering no higher than the existing building ridge line.
The building is designed as an upside down house with living accommodation at the first floor to take advantage of sea views over the adjacent countryside through the fully glazed north-west elevation.
