Spectrum Apartments

Client: Heritage Homes Ltd.
(by Hugh Logan as Principal Architect with Dandara)

Status: Completed 2007

Spectrum is a large scheme for 180 apartments of varying sizes. It replaces an existing amusement arcade and a redundant cinema on a deep site in the centre of Douglas Promenade.

The size of the site permitted the formation of a self-contained internal courtyard around which half the apartments are arranged. An opportunity has been taken to improve the small street at the rear of the site by the introduction of smaller scale units in the form of gabled housing.

The registered façade of the cinema is retained and is counterbalanced by an element of similar vertical emphasis at the other end of the seaward facing elevation. Two levels of car parking are accommodated beneath the internal courtyard and behind the ground floor of the front façade.
